TOXO-XL Our strategy TOXO-XL Our strategy

Mycotoxin binding is not the only solution to protect gut health and immunity.

Our 3-pillar strategy

Adsorption ability:

Extensive in vitro and in vivo validation results assure the efficacy of bentonite in its affinity and capacity towards mycotoxin adsorption. TOXO-XL contains (smectite-based) bentonite that is carefully selected and rigorously controlled in accordance with the (EU) No 1060/2013 category of technological additives. The bentonite in TOXO-XL has proven consistent and outstanding performance in various certified laboratories. Recent data by scientific institutes show a significant improvement in poultry health and performance.

Gut integrity:

Specific glucose biopolymers in TOXO-XL reinforce the tight junctions of enterocytes as well as the ratio of villi height to crypt depth, both of which can be negatively impacted by mycotoxins. This mechanism is crucial to cope with mycotoxins that are difficult to adsorb (e.g. Deoxynivalenol) and, therefore, plays a complementary role to adsorbents. Well-maintained gut integrity contributes to improved animal performance under mycotoxin exposure as shown in TOXO-XL in vivo studies.

Immune modulation:

Mycotoxins suppress the immune system's ability to respond to invaders. TOXO-XL contains highly exposed ß-glucans that act as immune modulating agents to mitigate the mycotoxin-induced immunosuppression. The source of the ß-glucans we use is very unique, due to a patented production technique. This technique also ensures a superior efficacy over other best alternatives, with in vitro & in vivo proofs.

Mitigating mycotoxin contamination

Trouw Nutrition's integrated strategy

TOXO-XL is part of the Mycotoxin Risk Management programme which helps identify, reduce and monitor the risk of mycotoxins in raw materials and complete feed. Studies around the world have shown TOXO-XL to be effective in mitigating mycotoxin contamination. The product can be applied in cases of mycotoxin contamination in raw materials or complete feed or incorporated into the feeding programme through premixes or feed.

The key to mycotoxin control is risk management; taking an integrated approach leads to a better outcome than isolated measures. Our complete risk management programme enables you to make decisions based on knowledge and data, and to use TOXO-XL more precisely. It allows for active monitoring of the risks, so you can be more confident about the quality of your products.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the role of a mycotoxin adsorbent?

Binders can be very effective for certain mycotoxins but definitely not all. The physiological complexity in the gut may compromise binding efficacy and, therefore, it is not wise to rely on a toxin binder alone.

Can I rely solely on mycotoxin binders?

We recommend that you combine the binders with other functional ingredients that can mitigate the toxicity of mycotoxins. An integrated binding and remediation strategy can help minimize the negative impact of mycotoxins on animal health and performance. TOXO-XL contains ingredients that support this combined strategy.

I use mould inhibitors to prevent mycotoxins. Is that enough?

Mould control is important, but not sufficient in itself to prevent mycotoxin occurrence. As mycotoxins are metabolites of moulds, these can be produced even during the growth of crops in the field. Once present, most mycotoxins cannot be removed through acidification or heating and other strategies are needed to prevent them from impacting animal performance. So, even when moulds are removed at any step of the feed production chain, mycotoxins that were already present will continue to pose a risk.
